Chris Komari came to Unites States in 1992 and has been living in California Since. During his last 16 years living in United States, he has been serving his adopted American community from being the 1st Indonesian-American who ever served in Governing bodies in the States of California from being a Board Member of Municipal Advisory Council (MAC) to being Board Member of the Project Area Committee (PAC) for the City of Bay Point, Contra Costa County, State of California, USA. Chris Komari is also President of Bay Point Chamber of Commerce from 2004 up to present time.
His 1st public appearance to run for a public office was in 2000. He ran for Board Member for Ambrose Recreation and Park District in the City of Bay Point, California. He lost the contest. Subsequently, as a result of his 1st public debate he started being known and recognized by the local politicians. In 2002, he was appointed by Supervisor District V, Contra Costa County in the State of California to serve as a Board Member for the Municipal Advisory Council known as the MAC and he served one term. In June 2007, he was again appointed by Supervisor District V to serve in a different governing body as a Board Member of the Project Area Committee (PAC). PAC is a local Governing body that oversees any new redevelopment projects in the City of Bay Point in cooperation with the Redevelopment Agency from the County of Contra Costa. He has been serving in this body up to present time.
Even though he is qualified for to be an American citizen, Chris Komari maintains his Indonesian citizenship and his California residency. One of his reasons is he hopes that someday he will serve his beloved Indonesian people in home country; Indonesia as much as he does now in his adopted American community in the United States of America (USA).
In response to the Tsunami tragedy back home in December 2004, Chris for the first time brought himself back to reconnect with his Indonesian community in 2005 after 13 years of living and serving his adopted American community. He was elected by the local Indonesian community in Northern California to Chair Tsunami Fund Raising Concert in San Francisco. Concurrently, the Indonesian Day 2005 celebration event was to follow in August 2005. He was elected to Chair a committee to undertake the event in the same year. Indonesian Day 2005 celebration event was the most recognized successful public event ever conducted in San Francisco. It raises a higher standard on the tone and substance of the event and radiates a new phenomenon on how the future event should be conducted year after year. Since then, he has been volunteering and participating in many public events conducted by the local Indonesian community in San Francisco and greater Bay Area.
In response to the newly emerging Democracy in Indonesia, Chris formed a political movement called: “Future Indonesia”, which later on he expanded the movement to become a political party called “Future Indonesia Independent Party (Partai Masa Depan Indonesia Mandiri). This transformation was necessary after 4 years of personal effort to address many critical issues facing Indonesia and his recent attempt articulated in his 14 pages document to invite Indonesia’s Presidential candidates in 2009 election for series of open public debates. He realizes then the needs of having his own political platform to enable him to raise those critical issues openly and publicly by challenging other political party leaders as well as the future Presidential candidates of Indonesia to resolve those critical and depressing issues.
By doing this, Chris hopes that those future leaders of Indonesia are forced to find solution of the problems facing Indonesia. At the same time, within the context of Democracy that the people of Indonesia have the right to know and to be informed and to be involved in the decision making process in the government affairs. Those are the underlying reasons why he formulated his political party.
He also believes that Indonesia is in the cross road between embracing a true democracy and soft dictatorship. He wants to promote democracy, monitor the implementation of its principles, its value and spirit as well as opening up a direct link for the Indonesian people to have direct access to their Representatives in Parliament by reforming the election process for all members of the national Parliament that is people oriented and not political party oriented.
Future Indonesia represents unspoken voices and the sentiment from the younger generation to reshape Indonesia to be a better, safer and brighter place to live. In his spare time, Chris enjoys flying with his buddies or, playing his personal flight simulator, playing tennis and his guitar!
